頭が上がらない/I can't raise my head
相手の方が立場が強く、何も言えない。昔受けた恩や弱み（＝それを責められると抵抗が出来ない）があるときに使われる。
The other persons position is strong, so you cant say anything. Used when you have some obligation or weakness from the past

頭が痛い/My head hurts
問題を抱えるが、どうしていいかわからないで、悩む　（頭が痛いN・N=問題、話）という表現もある。
You have a problem but you dont know what to do; concern

頭が切れる/(His) head is sharp
頭がよく、理解が速い。頭脳の働きが鋭い。「頭が切れるN（人）」という表現もある。
Quick to undersatnd with a sharp brain

頭が下がる/Lower (my) head
人の立派な行動や態度に感心して、尊敬の気持ちを抱く。
Have a feeling of respect to someones glorious or act or atitude

頭に来る/Comes in to (my) head
怒りの感情が高まって、頭に血が上る。
Angry emotions are rising, your blood is rising

頭を切り替える/Change my head (mind?)
これまでのやり方や考え方にしばられないで、今の状況に合わせた考え方をする。
Dont hang on to the way of doing or thinking up until now, think how to do things according to the position now

頭を下げる/Lower (my) head
謝る。頼む。相手に対する感謝や尊敬の気持ちを表す。
Apologies, request. Express to the other person your feeling of respect or gratitude

頭を使う/Use (my) head
合理的に考える、工夫する、知恵を使う。
Think logically, use your wisdom, trick etc

頭を離れない/Can't leave my head
印象が強かったり、心配したりして、そのことを忘れることができない。
The impression was strong, it was a worry - something you can't forget.

頭を冷やす/Cool (my/his) head
興奮した状態から落ち着きを取り戻して、冷静になる。
Return back from an excited state; become calm

気の慣用句

気が合う/Our spirits match
互いに気持が通じてうまくやっていける。
「気が合う者どうしが集まって作った小さなサークル・・・」
Our feelings are mutual so things go well.
"A small circle of made of people whose feelings match"

気が重い/(My) spirit is heavy
物事が負担に感じられたり、望ましくないことが予想されたりして、気持ちが晴れ晴れとしない。
「案内状をもらったときは気が重く欠席しようかとも思った・・・」
Feelings can't become cheerful; feeling the weight of matters and predicting that something you don't want to happen will.
"When I got the invitation my spirit became heavy and I thought I would absent myself from it".

気がある/(I) have spirit
（１）ある物事に関心を持っている。やってみようとする気持ちがある。　＜対＞気がない
（２）恋心をいだく。＜対＞　気がない　「あなたに気があるようですね」
(1) Have interest in something, or a sense of try it and see
(2) Have a feeling of love.


気が軽い/(My) spirit is light
（１）すぐうちとけて振る舞うことができる。　「気が軽い人だから、誘えば今からでも来るだろう」
（２）気持ちに負担を感じない。
(1) Someone who can soon thaws out and can act socially. "He is a person with a light spirit. If we invite him, he'll even come from now"

気にする/Do, make my spirit
心配する。気がかりに思う

心配する。心にとめる。
Worry, keep in your heart

気に掛かる (It) hangs on (my) spirit
不安に思えたりして、そのこと心から離れなくなる。心配である。

後の祭り/the opportunity has passed; regret something as too late

祭りが終わったあとの山車や祭祀用具の意から、時機が過ぎて役に立たないことのたとえ。また、後悔しても手遅れのことをいう。

Comes from the idea of the float and ritual items being left over after the festival. An example of the opportunity having passed and things that are not useful being left over. Regret at being too late.

虻蜂取らず/Can't catch the horsefly nor the bee

虻と蜂を一度に追いかけて、両方とも取り逃がしてしまうという意。両方のものを得ようとして、どちらも取り逃がすこと。欲張りすぎたために、かえってだめになることのたとえ。
Comes from the idea that if you chase after both a fly and a bee at one time, you .won't be able to catch either and they will both run away. If you try and get two things, you'll miss catching both. An example of being too greedy and hence all the better that it became bad.

油を売る/sell oil

仕事中に時間をつぶして怠けること、また仕事中に長々とむだ話をすることをいう。　　「いつまでも油を売っていないで、早く職場に戻れ」。
Waste time and neglect things while you are at work. Alternatively, while at work talk a long time about meaningless things. "Dont spoend any time selling oil, return quickly to your workplace".

江戸時代の油売りが客の容器に油を移すのび時間がかかったことからとも、髪油を売り歩く商人が婦女を相手にのんびりと話し込みながら商売したからともいわれる。
In the Edo period it took a long time to transfer oil to the containers of the customers, so salesmen who sold hair oul would spend a long time in relaxed conversation with housewives.
